The NN Audubon Chapter will be conducting a Bird Walk for all members and is open to the public as well. All participants must meet at the Visitors Center at 8:30 am to get the FREE parking permits. Jim Wagner, the President of the Northern Neck Audubon Foundation and long-time birding enthusiast, will lead the walk. After receiving the parking permits the participants will then go to the parking area next to the boardwalk (where there is a toilet facility) and begin our walk. If time permits based primarily on the group size, and if the group wants to continue, the plan is to then go to another trailhead and continue.
Audubon bird walks introduce people of all ages and experience levels to local bird species, teaching identification by sight and sound, habitat preferences, and seasonal behaviors. Participants learn firsthand why healthy habitats matter — wetlands, forests, grasslands. Jim will share knowledge that would take years to accumulate on your own.
Time outdoors in natural settings, combined with gentle walking, has well-documented benefits for stress reduction, attention, and overall wellbeing and it brings together people with a shared interest — from retirees to families to young naturalists— fostering our local community around a common cause. Come out and join us!
